Lecture and Video-Presentation on the History of Vogueing

>From the Harlem drag balls of the Roaring Twenties to the suburban disco
Metropolis in Paris, including side trips to Egypt’s pharaonic tombs
and fashion magazines showing Iman modeling for Yves Saint Laurent in the
70s: >From coordinates like queerness, battling and fashion photography
as well as the traditions of the afro-diaspora, Vogueing, the dance and performance
style world famous since Madonna’s 1990 hit »Vogue«, unfolds
a maximum of splendour. Based on video samples, Jan Kedves, journalist and
editor at Spex, traces and visualises the history of B-Boying’s queer
brother. With excerpts from the films »Tongues Untied«, »Paris
Is Burning«, »Beat Street« and »How Do I Look«
as well as music videos by Malcolm McLaren, Beyoncé, Hercules And Love
Affair and others.
Lecture will be held in German language.
